Sound effects

Post by Trilarion »

Found a good source for open licensed sound effects: http://www.freesound.org/

We might start searching for sound effects from the original game or effects we think we need and try to find them as free versions. For example like the sound a turning a page of paper over when starting the newspaper dialog, or shoots (artillery, infantry, ships), ...

This would be a nice task for all the people not doing coding or graphics. Anyone? :D

I have some suggestions for some public domain music, if that's alright?

Sure, Public Domain is like blood type zero, compatible with everything else. Just post your suggestions! :)

Well, I don't have the list on me but I was thinking at least some of what's included in the Victoria: Revolutions soundtrack.

http://www.paradoxian.org/vickywiki/ind ... ic_Listing is the list of music from the Victoria games (or some subset contained therein). Do there exist open source arrangements that have been recorded?

Looks to me more like background music than sound effects and we would also need a place to download them as public domain. Even for classical music it is not enough for the score to be public domain, also the recording of the performing orchestra has to be public domain, which means it either must be really old (then it should have bad recording quality) or someone was kind to release it, which is normally not the case. Classical music is cheap, but rarely completely free.

So free classical sheet music - no problem. Free classical sampled music? - Difficult.

Maybe there one will find some: http://www.dmoz.org/Arts/Music/Sound_Fi ... sical/MP3/

Effect lists of the original

Post by Trilarion »

Does anyone has a effects list of the original? I could look for it in the original but maybe somebody already did it (Ven maybe)?

Those are great. It is eerie how close some of them sound to Imp1 sounds, something I would have never expected.

Once I get terrain and possibly some industry screen artwork done, I will get cracking with editing these sounds around and down as short sound effects if nobody else wants to do it.
