Thanks! It was quite some work to find ones that came close to Imp1. I'd also be willing to edit them, no problem.

What do we need... I'm thinking of short 5 seconds sound bits?

We're still missing (out top of my head):
  • -Oil refinery
    -Capital
    -University / trade school
    - Moving engineer unit
    - Moving navy (IMHO there should be a difference between sailing ships and steam ships)
    - Engineer unit action sounds (would be nice to have different sounds for building mines, surveying, building railroads / etc)

-Turn page over (newspaper)
http://www.freesound.org/people/flag2/sounds/63318/ or http://www.freesound.org/people/vibe_crc/sounds/59879/

We are also missing war sounds: canon, rifle, horn or the famous telegraph sound for end of turn news.

Guidelines

If somebody revises the sound effects, please:
  • Delete any silent time at the beginning and end of the sound effect
  • Normalize the volume to ??db??
  • Save in a loseless (compressed) format as flac or wav
  • Give it a meaningful name
  • Keep a list in a file about the origin (for copyright reasons) of each effect.
  • Indicate whether this sound effect can be looped or not.
This will help in the future. I will probably have to compile them all to a single ogg file which is then loaded upon start into memory and just seeked and played everytime (instead of the background files which are streamed) so have as smallest delay as possible.

I've begun editing some sounds... will be uploading them when done!

Edit:
Sooooo.... I don't really know how where to upload the file. I've chosen a random hit on Google

It's on 'Freeuploadsite.com'

Rar file contains sound files (*.flac, highest possible quality, +- 5 seconds length) for:
Steam train (railyard)
Weaving loom
Clothing factory
Armory/barracks/moving armies
Shipyard
Sawmill
Furniture factory
Metal works
Steel mill
people talking
Food processing
Warehouse
Power plant
Turning newspaper

It also contains an Excel sheet with source/license/attribution info.

... prolly tons more
For one of the now-defunct Imperialist forum projects I went through the game and counted them all: Imp1 has 127 sounds, along with 19 minutes of music on the CD. I have the WAV folder from the Imp1 files that a user named Xebec culled, but it only has 95 sounds so I may need to redo it to find them all. Listening through them there are several that don't sound familiar, so perhaps they weren't all used.

If you or anyone else wants to dig into the Imp files, eXeScope is hosted on https://sites.google.com/site/vennewimp ... le-cabinet and can open all of them.

I've got no idea what went wrong, but they're now *really* in the Dropbox .
