Thanks! It was quite some work to find ones that came close to Imp1. I'd also be willing to edit them, no problem.
What do we need... I'm thinking of short 5 seconds sound bits?
We're still missing (out top of my head):
-Oil refinery
-Capital
-University / trade school
- Moving engineer unit
- Moving navy (IMHO there should be a difference between sailing ships and steam ships)
- Engineer unit action sounds (would be nice to have different sounds for building mines, surveying, building railroads / etc)
Delete any silent time at the beginning and end of the sound effect
Normalize the volume to ??db??
Save in a loseless (compressed) format as flac or wav
Give it a meaningful name
Keep a list in a file about the origin (for copyright reasons) of each effect.
Indicate whether this sound effect can be looped or not.
This will help in the future. I will probably have to compile them all to a single ogg file which is then loaded upon start into memory and just seeked and played everytime (instead of the background files which are streamed) so have as smallest delay as possible.
For one of the now-defunct Imperialist forum projects I went through the game and counted them all: Imp1 has 127 sounds, along with 19 minutes of music on the CD. I have the WAV folder from the Imp1 files that a user named Xebec culled, but it only has 95 sounds so I may need to redo it to find them all. Listening through them there are several that don't sound familiar, so perhaps they weren't all used.

Can't find it? Does our dropbox has a hole?
I've got no idea what went wrong, but they're now *really* in the Dropbox .
