Hey all
Here are some great political type dos games I have played and recommend for you to have a go. All this games are now abandonware and are found for free on the abandonia site. I will include links.
One of the things I love about dos games is that they could not rely on graphics that much thus they had to make up for this in game mechanics.

How to Play dos games on any computer
1. Download and Install Dosbox
2. Create a folder "C:\games\Dos" (Do not put any spaces in any of the folder names, Makes it easier)
3. Download the dos game from the link and extract to your "DOS" folder (IE "C:\Games\Dos\Crisis" for crisis in the kremlin)
4. Start Dosbox and type in "C: C:\games\dos\#FOLDERNAME#" Without quotes (IE "c: c:\Games\Dos\Crisis" for crisis in the kremlin)
5. Hit Enter
6. Type in "c:"
7. hit enter
8. Type in the file name and hit enter (I will give you the file name of each game below)
10. Enjoy! (Hit alt+enter at any time to go to or go out of full screen mode)

"Crisis in the Kremlin"
It is probably one of my favourite old time games. Two of the things I love about it is that it is one of the earliest games I know that uses an interactive event system and it has a quite advanced budget system along with a governmental policy system.
You play the leader of the USSR after the death of Stalin towards the end of the USSR. You can pretty much do what you want. You can follow the historical path and allow the USSR to fall apart or you can try and hold it together. Strengthen the military or the economy. The choice is yours. Be careful though your choices can piss off the wrong kind of people.

"Hidden Agenda"
What the game lacks in colour it makes up for in political simulation.
You are the newly elected president of a banana republic recently established by a revolution. This game gives you so much free reign on what you want to do and how. Will you follow the socialist path and try to spread the wealth of the country equally whilst making friends with the communist government of Cuba and USSR, will you follow the capitalist path and try to ensure free distribution of wealth and privatisation of farmland whilst making friends with the USA, will you focus on setting up proper health care, infrastructure and attempting to befriend all nations, or will you try a combination of all three.
You appoint 4 ministers out of a choice of 9 which are split into 3 different parties. This forces you as the player to appoint a minister from another party rather than just having the same ideological ministers all around.
You can meet with the all different types of people, governments, bankers, farmes, teachers, doctors, and the list goes on. You may even be approached by a group of people that demand something from you or you can just meet with your own appointed ministers who will give you a list of issues to deal with. You deal with issues by either taking the advice of the people who brought it to your attention or your minister in the relevant area. Will you arrest former members of the military that attacked and murdered people? Or will you let the past rest not willing to stir up dissident in your military? The choice really is yours

Great Political DOS Games
Re: Great Political DOS Games
Thanks for the introduction to these games. Would it be okay if I move this thread to the Players/Other games section of the forum. It's so empty there and it could need some filing? Or should be abolish the place there and talk about other games in the General discussion corner?
Re: Great Political DOS Games
oh yes move it there. I didn't see that thread
Re: Great Political DOS Games
They are good but you have to give them a couple of goes before you can get the hang of them. I would not be surprised if you were kicked out of office in both games a couple of times before you get the hang of them, as I did.
Re: Great Political DOS Games
I have to try that Kremlin game
I have been thinking of making a game called EUSSR. In it you control the new socialist EU which is doomed to fall. But you score the more points the longer you last.
Control the propaganda machine, riot cops and military as the nations try to declare independence. Invade Norway, as the oil they have belongs to the people, or how about starting a war with Russia, Turkey or some other muslim nation and expand the great project EU!
