Re: General Style - Guidelines
Multiple Tiles of the Same Type : I'm working on creating continuous terrain, in the same way it worked in the original Imperialism. If you know of games that you think did it better I'm game for doing some research, but Imp1 did incredibly well with continuous fields, mountains, and hills. Tile Ba...

Re: We need a NAME for the project!
You know, we could call it the Third Age of Imperialism, which would be somewhat historically accurate in terms colonialism, mercantilism, and imperialism being three different forms of exploitation of minor nations.

Re: Programming platform of choice
I suggest you code in whatever language you feel comfortable coding an entire game by yourself in. The reality is that we may be the only 3 people who work on this, so pick a language that won't get you confused or bored, and something you can bugfix easily. I'm months away from being able to code c...

Re: Economy
It's going to be incredibly difficult and game-changing to step away from the unrealistically-simple economy of the original games, because minor nations don't have enough capital to support the amount of finished goods they buy. In Imp1, minor nations were a tool used to inject money into the major...

Re: General Style - Guidelines
A few notes: Map Tiles: 64x64 or 80x80 (probably latter) Since I'm doing watercolor/pencil artwork, the tiles will all be quite large initially. We can do some tests once I have a few completed and see what we like and what will work well. Rivers as overlay: (maybe programmed instead of painted) Wha...

Re: Military
I remember from either Imp1 or Imp2 (not sure anymore) that units would get scared after taking some hits and retreat from the battlefield. A general would prevent this. I called this property morale. I am not sure if we need it, probably we could do without? We can try it, but IMO morale in Imp1 a...

Re: Promoting the project
As soon as I get some basic artwork together, I can use Gimp to build some mockup screenshots. I'm working on some video editing stuff for a non-profit so perhaps I throw some images into a video with music... I think that might do the trick as well. People want to see progress, as all of the failed...

Re: We need a NAME for the project!
We need to be careful not to take the name of an existing video or board game - a ton of those cropped up when we tried to name one of the earlier projects on the Imperialist forums. Since however they settled on a name, I'm going to offer we steal one of the other ones from their list: - Imperial D...

Game Specifications and Where I'm Supposed to Start
I read up on the design documents on the repository, and the Game Specifications document looks really... vast. There looks to be several games worth of content that will hopefully be implemented in there. I'm wondering if there is a priority order on the way these mechanics will be created so I kno...

Re: Introduce yourself
Hello!
My name is Veneteaou, and I'm a long time fan of Imperialism. I wrote a longer introduction, but I guess I hadn't setup my account so it wants admin approval. Anyway, hi!
