Re: Hosting the server part
I must confirm your observation. Unfortunatly, both jdks are not equivalent. Even some programs do not work under open jre at all. But Oracle's platform is available for Mac, Windows und Linux and with this those issues should not exist.

Re: Diplomacy
I think AI should behave like you or I would behave. Of course, its reactions must be reasonable but not sufficiently deterministic. It is necessary to explain its behavor for example in such messages as you have written or in newspaper articles (which btw were a great and funny feature of Imp): &qu...

Re: Diplomacy
Yes, implementing realistic interactions is difficult but a interesting challenge for the programmer too. And more exciting for the gamers. I recommend to design a such strong AI which can handle unfair gameplay of a human player. The AI should react like a human Therefore, the costs of unfairness s...

In case of an open source game Java is an excellent choice. The users only have to install the IRE - an acceptable effort (...

Re: Hosting the server part
On the other hand I don't want to make myself too dependent on google. If the game is too dependent on too many google specific services it would be bad. The best would be if it would run always locally on your computer and optional also online... In the singleplayer mode everyting should run local...

Re: Diplomacy
Your suggestions are good, especially the time-limited alliances or conditioned treaties. The diplomatic interactions in Imp1 were too poor. Besides the basic actions (foundation of trade consulates and embassies which allows to conduct subsidies, trade non-aggression pacts and alliances) there must...

I ve no intention to hijack your project ;) I could support you in code reviewing and component testing or planning th...

Re: Introduce yourself
Hi guys, like you I am an old Imperialism 1 fan. But I haven't played it for a long time because of some compatibility issues with the latest Windows versions. The scrolling speed is too high by far, which makes it impossible to have funny by playing it. So this project is a good chance to revive th...
