Re: Terrain Tiles

Yes, it looks like it is going to be lots of work.

I had to play a little with your program. I made quick and very simple desert tiles. It seems that it is impossible to make it perfect with only those 2 tiles. Some extra smoothing pieces would be needed for the hard edges.

Re: Terrain Tiles

Edit: Well it looks like you had already solved this on the other topic from 2013. I took a look at this. How would I solve this? For the desert, I think it needs minimum of 1 base tile and 4 different "roads" / connecting graphics. In order to make it look good. In the code, you first dra...

Re: Hall of Fame of Turn based strategy games

Many of those games are on my cycling list of games that I tend to go back to from time to time. I was surfing youtube and it recommended me a video. OpenXcom 1.0 trailer. And now I am playing X-Com again. They made excellent job. It uses the original games data files, but they rewrote the code so i...

Re: VI. Research

I have to say that I liked the Imperialism 1 technology system. Let's examine Gatling Gun: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Jordan_Gatling Gatling was inventor that made money with his inventions. He was not scientist that worked for the nation / government. I think the Imperialism 1 style makes...

Re: Introduce yourself

Welcome Visitor! Another job that would benefit from experience is sound effects. Even if it's just scouring Creative Commons sites to build a sound library for the game, it's still pretty important in my opinion. Thanks. Some years ago I have had to rely on those sites and it can be tedious job to...

Video

Tri: I certainly would like to have videos for several points in the game (beginning, end, elections, big battle won/lost, capitulation, victory celebrations in the capital, scenario introductions, ...) This needs it's own topic. I think we need to first decide what style we are going to use in the ...

Re: Introduce yourself

I found out Imperialism quite late, somewhere around 2003. Always been strategy gamer and played through the Civs and Master Of Orions (well not the 3). I have some hobby level skills on programming, made tetris in c++ back in the DOS era and later with Java. Also started many other game projects, b...

Re: II. General Settings

Yes, having both scenarios is what I was thinking about. It might be easier to get into the game with only the European map, but we veterans probably want something bigger. There could maybe be some achievement bonus for making the coast to coast railway in Africa? Maybe small video or picture and s...

Re: III. Economy

If the new trade system gets too tedious for the player to do every turn, how about this: You make lengthier deals instead of haggling every turn with everybody. Make a deal that you buy 8 timber for 10 turns from Sweden. After 10 turns, you negotiate again and maybe adjust the terms. Now you also h...
