Re: Metternich Engine

More progress: I've added several more provinces to the map (some in areas not shown on the map below), and I reworked how the scenario map is displayed, so that it has a closer-up scale. Additionally, great powers can now be selected on the map.

Re: Metternich Engine

I have more progress to report. The engine now supports displaying an overview map when selecting a scenario to play: scenario_screenshot.png Other than the Restoration of Europe scenario, the others are not necessarily going to be actually kept (it is important to have multiple scenarios at this st...

Re: Metternich Engine

I have made a good deal of progress since the previous post. I have done a lot of groundwork for the implementation of scenarios, including having added basic support for defining countries and province ownership. Additionally, I have done some work in implementing terrain, and terrain map data can ...

Metternich Engine

Hello! I am working on an open-source engine to develop games in the style of Imperialism. This is engine is called Metternich, and I am creating this post to share the progress as I develop it. The engine is written in C++, with Qt being used for the UI. It is still in the very early stages. Right ...

Re: So much potential

Hey everyone! I just found this community today and I'm super excited about it. I've always loved Imperialism. It's been one of my favorite games that I can remember. I've always wondered why more games weren't focused on the economical aspect of running an empire. Imperialism offered one of the mo...

Re: Basic Scenario - Europe 1814

Looks nice. How have you made the map? From the NASA images linked earlier with some kind of averaging and thresholding? From somewhere else? And are the scripts written in some common language (Java, Python, ...)? I did that some months ago by hand (using having less than 50% transparency in the o...

Re: Industry and Infrastructure

Including resources from Imp2 is definitely possible. For special scenarios like the 1814 scenario base scenario one probably don't want to have them, so the resources must basically be identical. So they are valuable and they bring money, but the name and the icon is basically manually chosable. T...

Re: Industry and Infrastructure

I think it would be nice to include the new resources from Imperialism II (sugar cane, refined sugar, tobacco, cigars, furs and fur hats). Even if they aren't needed by workers, they could be used as a source of income, being demanded by minor nations (or provinces, if provincial demand is added as ...

Re: Economy

Another point on province demand: provinces should probably only buy commodities if their provincial town is connected to their nation's transport network (except for the provinces of minor nations?).

Re: Economy

I think provincial demand is a good change to the original economic model. Since the project is a remake IMO not much should be changed from the original's base mechanics, but provincial demand solves a big issue with the original, and fits in with its mechanics quite elegantly. The domestic market ...
